BENEFITS OF PILATES
As Pilates offers a unique way of experiencing your body and movement, it can be difficult to understand, or even feel that anything is happening, at the beginning. This can be frustrating and many people may choose to go back to their normal routines, rather than continue.
The method has evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk, capable of creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. However, the aesthetic benefits are just a bonus compared to the rest, such as:
Better posture, musculoskeletal health and overall fitness
Reaching specific, physical goals related to your sport, or athletic ability
Expand your body awareness and develop trust in your body’s abilities
Support the organs of your digestive and reproductive system, by stabilizing muscles which support them
Improve your circulatory system, reducing swelling, high blood pressure, breathing problems etc
Returning your body to movement after being inactive
Rehabilitating after injury, surgery or illness, if working with a qualified health practitioner
Staying fit and well by exercising at an older age
Remaining fit and strong during and after pregnancy, as well as preparing for birthing and motherhood
Preventing and improving spinal deformities such as scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis
Improves energy levels, concentration and practical thinking, improving school and work performance.
Important note:
If you are pregnant, post-natal, dealing with an injury, or a health condition, you may have heard that Pilates is generally a safe form of exercise to undertake, in these instances. However, this is only the case when the client is taught correctly by an appropriate, qualified teacher, who has a satisfactory amount of experience.
Central Balance Pilates teachers all have additional qualifications in Physiotherapy, Nursing, Athletic Training and Sports Rehabilitation Sciences. They are also specialised in Pre and Post natal care, as this is a delicate situation which demands a very particular approach during exercise.
